Tips for a Better Burn: Get the Most Out of Your Candles

At Milan’s Magic, we believe that every candle should burn beautifully from the first light to the last flicker. To help you make the most of your candles and enjoy their full glow and fragrance, here are some tried-and-true tips for a better burn:

1. Trim the Wick

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about ¼ inch. A trimmed wick ensures a cleaner, longer, and more even burn. Longer wicks can cause uneven flames, smoke, or soot. A quick trim before each use can make a big difference!

2. Let the Wax Pool

For the first burn, allow your candle to melt across the entire surface before extinguishing it. This helps create an even wax pool and prevents the candle from tunneling. A good rule of thumb is to burn the candle for at least 1 hour for every inch of its diameter.

3. Avoid Drafts

Candles placed near windows, fans, or air vents can burn unevenly due to drafts. If the flame flickers too much, it may cause the candle to burn unevenly or produce smoke. Keep your candle in a stable environment to enjoy a steady, clean burn.

4. Burn Time Matters

It’s important to follow the recommended burn time for your candle. Generally, avoid burning candles for more than 3–4 hours at a time. Extinguishing the candle after this period helps maintain the integrity of the wax and wick.

5. Keep it Clean

Make sure to remove any debris, such as wick trimmings or matches, from the candle’s surface. This prevents unwanted smoke and helps maintain a consistent burn.

6. Use a Snuffer

When you’re ready to put out the flame, use a candle snuffer to avoid splashing hot wax and reduce smoke. Blowing out the candle can sometimes cause the wick to smolder, which leaves an unpleasant odor.

7. Store Candles Properly

To ensure your candles perform at their best, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and light can affect the fragrance and quality of the wax.

8. Know When to Stop

Stop using your candle when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom. Burning a candle beyond this point can damage the container or surface below it.

Following these simple steps can help you get the best experience from your Milan’s Magic candles. Whether you’re enjoying our signature scents or setting a magical mood, a little care goes a long way in making your candles last longer and burn brighter.

Happy burning! ✨
